
Nick Walters
Funding consultant & grant writer
Nick is a Principal Specialist in Grant Writing at Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luonnonvarakeskus), a government research institute focusing on forestry, agriculture, food systems, fisheries, waste and wastewater, predators, game, nature tourism, and the circular bioeconomy. His work involves writing funding proposals and advising and coaching researchers on grant writing. He is highly specialised in developing major Horizon Europe Cluster proposals, as well as other Horizon Europe instruments (ERC, MSCA, EIC) and Academy of Finland proposals.
Nick trains Pitch Perfect clients on funding proposals and CV writing. He also performs freelance consultancy and writing work through his sole proprietorship Walters Research, and at Alien Technology Transfer, for whom he develops European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator proposals for SMEs.

He previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Tampere University and a laboratory manager at Imperial College London in the fields of biomedical biomaterials, stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, and tissue engineering. He graduated from University College London with a PhD in Biomedical Biomaterials, following an MSc in Cell & Molecular Biology from Uppsala University (Sweden) and a BSc in Biomaterials from The University of Reading.
Nick is a dual British and Finnish citizen and lives with his cats Kaamos and Kettu in Helsinki. His interests include socialising, food, culture, nature, photography, kayaking, and skiing.
