Dave Sayers
Senior Lecturer in Linguistics
Dave is a Senior Lecturer in Linguistics at the University of Jyväskylä. He has previously worked at universities in the UK and Finland, and as a research manager for a charity. He studied at the University of Essex and the University of Cambridge and has organised and participated in conferences across Europe and further afield. He chairs the EU-funded research network Language In The Human-Machine Era. His teaching experience includes the use of persuasive language to influence people; effective presentation skills; and CV preparation.
Dave has delivered freelance training and workshops in different professional sectors. He has secured funding under Horizon 2020 and is regularly asked by funding organisations to review funding bids, and by publishers to review books and articles. His work for Pitch Perfect has taken him well beyond academia, and he is able to adapt to trainees in many different areas.
Dave lives in Jyväskylä with two guinea pigs. He enjoys cycling around the lakes, travelling, and DIY adventures. He is trying to learn Finnish, with slow but steady progress.
